March is Irish Heritage Month in Newport

The Parade Date for the 55th Annual Parade is Saturday March 12, 2011. It will leave City Hall at 11:00am.

Following their annual tradition, the St. Patrick's Parade Committee has announced the 2011 Grand Marshal to be Ray Lynch Jr. Once again their honor is being bestowed on a Hibernian brother. Ray is a third generation member of our division. He is also a member of the AOH Pipes & Drums. Ray is a teacher at Cluny School. Congratulations Ray!

A Weekend of Coaching

Authentic 19th century coaches drawn by matched and highly-trained teams of horses will return to Newport from August 20-23, 2009, in the triennial renewal of a Weekend of Coaching. The public will enjoy free viewing of the colorful and historic coaches every day, as they drive through the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport Mansions, celebrating and preserving a century-old sporting tradition. Approximately a dozen coaching teams will come to Newport from around the country

The Great American Bake Sale

Some thing fun to do!
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. One Bellevue’s Executive Chef Kevin Thiele and Hotel Viking will be hosting a Great American Bake Sale in the hotel’s courtyard. The event is open to the public and all proceeds are being donated to the Rhode Island chapter of Share Our Strength, a private, nonprofit organization leading the fight against hunger and poverty by inspiring and organizing individuals and businesses to fight hunger at home and around the globe.

New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge
12-Noon. Every New Year's Day for charity the Newport Polar Bears invite anyone crazy enough to join them for a swim in the Frosty North Atlantic Ocean. The charity this year is as last year, A Wish Come True. All proceeds from the swim and at the after swim party at the Atlantic Beach Club at the east end of Easton's Beach. Come join us at noon and help us raise money for a great charity.

HALLOWEEN IN NEWPORT

I took Jennifer and Christopher to the 6th Annual Ballard Park Pumpkin Tour.
What a wonderful fall experience!!!! This is a great collaboration of so many community groups. Ballard Park's quarry meadow gets transformed into a magnificent blooming garden of lights when thousands of Christmas tree lights, luminaries, and gobos and up lights enrich the park's three-acre quarry meadow, which includes a vernal pond, rock wall and groves of trees. The 38th Annual Newport International Boat Show, September 11-14, 2008, will feature new sailboats and powerboats, and thousands of products and services from both domestic and international exhibitors.

Sunday: 10 AM to 5 PM

Multiple waterfront facilities along America's Cup Avenue and Thames Street host the Show including Newport Yachting Center, Oldport Marine and Bannister's Wharf, which are all connected by show docks. Our newest expansion, Bowen's Wharf, will showcase downeast-style boats. Bowen's Wharf is centrally located within other show sites including Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina, which hosts the Passagemaker TrawlerPort Program and also showcases center-console boats on land. All Show sites are "connected" by FREE water taxis.

It’s A Great Day for the Irish

It will be the 52 year for the Rhode Island Saint Patrick's Day Parade held in Newport, Come rain, snow, or shine, on Saturday, March 15th 2008. The parade will begin promptly at 11:00am from Newport City Hall and will proceed to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church in the heart of the Fifth Ward. The parade this year is estimated to last 2 hours and will include 10 Pipe Bands, 11 Marching Bands, 5 Fife & Drum Corps, 5 Clown Units, 5 reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits and maybe a great day to plan out your wedding day !
