Design News In New York Magazine... Centerpieces on Steroids

The Horticultural Society of New York is letting the public preview its annual New York Flower Show Dinner Dance this year, parading its famously ornate floral arrangements before anyone who buys a $10 admission. Among the twenty-odd table displays are an eight-foot design by Nancy Swiezy adorned with three feet of feathers and a nearly ten-foot-tall interpretation of Diana Vreeland’s living room by Janet Simon and Jerry Rose (583 Park, nr. 63rd St.; 212-757-0915; 4/12. 3–5 p.m.; $10).

This year, the event previously known as Flowers & Design will reprise the spirit of The Hort's famous and historic New York Flower Show. For the first time ever, there will be a ticketed Private Viewing with the Designers from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

This year's honorees are: David Easton, architect and world-renowned interior designer; Stephen Orr, Editorial Director of Gardening at Martha Stewart Living; Frances Tenenbaum, author and former garden editor for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt; and Alex Timbers, writer/director and Artistic Director of Les Freres Corbusier company.

New York's finest floral, fashion, and interior designers will transform the event space at 583 Park into a magical setting by creating elaborate designs reflecting this year's dramatic theme, Fire & Ice. Our world class authorities on design, led by R. Ellen Avellino, will judge the magnificent table displays.

The Wedding Cake Candle Collection

Founder Jessica Lauber was born and raised in New York City and educated at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology. Her richly creative career has included fashion merchandising, publishing, and interior design.
“I found it literally impossible to find candles of exceptional quality and unique beauty...that were affordable. It seemed impossible in New York City where everything and anything is available. I'm so honored to be asked again to take part in The New York Horticultural Society 2011 Gala .

This Year Its all about "Fire And Ice" So my table will be called "A Girls Best Friend!"

Previously known as Flowers & Design, this year the event will reprise The Hort’s famous and historic New York Flower Show.

Each designer will receive an award for their table based on categories determined by our judges, and for the first time ever, there will be a ticketed Public Viewing and Press Preview from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

The Horticultural Society of New York hosted its annual spring gala “Flowers and Design” at 583 Park Avenue. They honored Christian Duvernois, the landscape designer, and David Monn, the floral designer and event planner; and Betty Sherrill, the force behind McMillen for the past half century. Mario Buatta, Chris Giftos, and Bunny Williams were Design Chairs. Their theme was “Legends, Myths and Fairy Tales.” Spectacular displays, fashion, floral and interior-wise were the order of the evening. And being New York, without peer. Our indefatigable photographer Ann Watt got there early to take it all in for those of us who couldn’t be there.

Legends, Myths and Fairy Tales

On Thursday, April 29, The Horticultural Society of New York hosts the much-anticipated spring gala, Flowers & Design at 583 Park Avenue. Our esteemed honorees are landscape designer Christian Duvernois, floral designer and event planner David Monn and interior designer Betty Sherrill.

Nancy Swiezy Events will present "Dionysus on her mind" with place settings encrusted in jewels by www.Prouna.com

The format of the event will be 7pm cocktails followed by 8pm dinner and dancing. Our Design Chairs this year are Mario Buatta, Chris Giftos and Bunny Williams and our theme will be "Legends, Myths and Fairy Tales". We are certain to see spectacular displays as the finest floral, fashion and interior designers transform the space into a magical setting by creating centerpieces reflecting this theme.
