What to Consider When Planning Your Newport Wedding From Borrowed And Blue.

By Brittany Hyland
You probably already know that we highly recommend working with a wedding planner, but a professional Wedding Planner In Newport can prove invaluable for more reasons than you think. Newport is a sailing town peppered with Victorian mansions along the coast, so weddings can range from a chic garden party to a black tie affair. Your planner can help you to find the right venue to match your style, while also helping you to find the right value. With that being said, Swiezy lists OceanCliff Hotel as one of the best values in the area!
There’s a reason that John and Jackie Kennedy chose the seaside town of Newport, Rhode Island, for their 1953 nuptials. With its elegant mansions and breathtaking coastlines, the town provides the perfect blend of sophistication and drama to create the glamorous Newport Wedding of your dreams. But that's not to say this is any easy task, so we've asked Newport Wedding Planner Nancy Swiezy of A Newport Affaire to give our readers some tips for creating the nautical nuptials of their dreams.
Wedding planners can also create backup plans that you may not have thought of yet. Take this tip from Swiezy, for example: “Tent weddings in Newport must have a backup plan! If an unexpected storm comes through, as they’re apt to do in the summer and fall, you need to have a hold on a secondary place, just in case. Otherwise, your wedding may be cancelled because of limited venue availability. We saw this happen last year when Hurricane Sandy hit the northeastern coast.

Now that you know what you’re looking for, it’s time to choose dates! Keep in mind that peak wedding season in Newport runs from May through early October, when the weather is warm and local events, like weekly regattas, draw visitors to the region. While this may mean that prices can be steeper, it could also give you extra perks when it comes to local entertainment for guests and special touches for the reception. “Find out when the town will be shooting off fireworks, and you may be able to have a free fireworks show for your wedding,” says Swiezy
Don’t just look to the area for entertainment! Infuse your big day with New England inspired charm as you start to create meaningful details. “While the actual wedding day tends to be romantic and pretty, I like to use nautical details for secondary events, like the cocktail party or rehearsal dinner. Try using sand bags with luminaries, old sailing charts, or lanterns to decorate the venue. I’ve also asked a pipe and drums leader to take guests to the cocktail hour because it was reminiscent of colonial times in the area,” says Swiezy.
